Education 2A Designing for Zero Net Energy Case Studies
Albert T. Bicol, PEng, is a LEED AP
Case studies of projects designed to utilize nothing in terms of energy and potable water, produce nothing in terms of greenhouse gasses (GHG), and the various steps used to achieve zero net energy facilities. Through an interactive discussion and visual presentation, participants will be introduced to example projects and focus on strategy considerations and procedures utilized, that introduce local and global trends in designing high performance buildings.

Education 2B High Performance Building Strategies
Terry Egnor
This presentation explores the process by which design goals can be translated from programming intent into the basis of design, sequence of operations, and control system capabilities as building design progresses. Building control system technologies for lighting, HVAC, and other active systems are discussed, and critical interactions between various building control systems are identified. Energy savings opportunities associated with various control strategies are presented, and options for long term performance verification are discussed.
Biography
Mr. Terry Egnor is an ASHRAE member since 1983, a BetterBricks Advisor for the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, and has over twenty five years of experience in energy management and services. Mr. Egnor is recognized for developing and delivering energy systems that work. After earning his Master's from Harvard in program development, his original efforts in energy led to the design of many customer-oriented programs, from renewable energy at Ecotope to commercial efficiency at PacifiCorp. In the late 1980's, Terry recognized the potential of integrated demand side/renewable strategies as a platform for improved system efficiency, as well as more sustainable systems for the environment. At MicroGrid, and through his varied publications, Terry has promoted the use of intelligent design and integrated systems to maximize building performance as well as provide additional customer benefits. Using this approach, MicroGrid, in collaboration with The Hartman Company, has produced a string of regional and national energy award-winning projects. The resurgence of interest in green buildings and renewable energy sources, and the explosive growth of the Internet as a controls platform, promise even greater opportunities to substitute technology and intelligence for energy, the hallmark of MicroGrid Systems.
