Education 5B “How to Green your Specification”
Mr. Chris Forney, LEED™ AP

One thing is certain, if we ignore it long enough, the environment will go away. Since buildings use 40% of materials globally, are responsible for 30% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and take up huge amounts of landfill space, what can we do to reverse this trend? Changing the way buildings consume energy and resources requires us to change the way we build. The U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program calls upon builders to achieve this in part by not only following but also documenting proper observation of industry best practices. We must be able to clearly communicate these expectations and transition specifications into tools for sustainability. LEED should be challenging but understanding and documenting requirements shouldn't have to be.

Education 5C “Leadership: Going Against The Norm”
Nash Hasan

Leadership is going against the norm; otherwise, it's not leadership. You may say, doesn't this sound like trouble? The answer is: YES. Leadership and Management are two different and very distinct terms. Unfortunately, these two terms are used interchangeably and incorrectly within most organizations to describe people's traits rather than the role each play. A Manager's role and responsibility is to adhere to and implement existing policies, procedures, plans, methods, practices, established rules… the Norms. Leadership is the complete opposite of that definition.

This session will cover:
o Leadership vs. Management

o The price for being a Leader
o Leader's state of mind
